About
About Open Balance.
Open Balance is a product of Sector Processing LTD (company number 17211287), a UK company dedicated to GDPR and data compliance.
Why we're building it
Most budgeting tools ask you to hand over bank access before they'll show you anything useful, we think that's backwards, especially with money already tight for so many people. Open Balance takes the manual route instead: you enter what comes in and what goes out, and it works the same way for everyone, no bank connection, no judgement, whether you're comfortably managing a household budget or working through debt with a charity's support.
What we are and aren't
Open Balance takes the numbers you enter and runs them through simple, mechanical maths, nothing personalised, no financial advice, and no financial insight of any kind, just arithmetic laid out clearly. On that basis we've assessed the product as outside FCA-regulated activity, a position confirmed by independent legal advice. If you need debt or financial advice, a debt charity or FCA-regulated adviser is the right place, not this website; see the charity and advice-service section on our homepage for how referrals work with Open Balance.
How we protect it
We built Open Balance so that we physically cannot read your financial data, not a promise, a design choice. That's a higher bar than most banks hold themselves to, a bank can see your data internally if it needs to; we made sure we can't. Because it's your data, we protect it to the fullest: your accounts, balances, income, debts, and plans are encrypted on your own device using a key we never see, before any of it reaches us. Signing in requires two-factor authentication on every account. The platform is built to align with ISO 27001 and SOC 2 control frameworks. Our policies, access controls, and monitoring are structured against those standards. Read the full picture on our Security page, or see exactly what we can and can't read in our Privacy notice and FAQ.
